USPS Suffers Data Breach

NAPS HQ was informed by USPS HQ officials that a cyber-breach of USPS employee data occurred. A USPS Newsbreak, FAQ’s, USPS Stand-up Talk and other information related has been disseminated to postal employees regarding this breach.

In addition, the November 10, 2014 edition of The Washington Post, law enforcement believes that hackers “are suspected of breaching the computer networks of the United States Postal Service, compromising the data of more than 800,000 employees.”

The compromised employee data included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses and dates of employment. At this time, no customer data was suspected to be exposed in the breach.

The Postal Service is taking steps including enrolling employees in credit monitoring services and providing regular updates on Blue. NAPS encourages its members to take advantage of these measures.
