LTS Recap - March 20, 2012

For  those of you who were in Washington last week for the 2012 NAPS  Legislative Training Seminar and met with your Congressional lawmakers and staff to press for action on the NAPS Legislative Agenda, THANK YOU for your efforts.

LTS Delegates Take the Hill on Postal Reform and Cuts in Retirement Benefits

Some 600 NAPS delegates lobbied Congress last week on March 13-14 to promote  sensible and comprehensive postal reform for the Postal Service.   NAPS  advocates received strong support from Senate and House offices against closures of mail processing plants and post offices, against reductions of mail delivery standards, and support for the realignment of the retiree health prefunding burden that has roiled the Postal Service's finances.

In addition, NAPS delegates also urged Congress to refrain from using federal and Postal Service workforce benefits as a piggybank to trim federal deficit spending.

The timing of NAPS' overtures to the Senate on postal issues was excellent.  Senate floor action on postal legislation (S. 1789) could come as early as next week.

LTS Follow-Throughs

If  you attended the LTS -- please be sure to mail the Congressional  lawmakers and staff with whom you and your delegation met a personal thank-you note, along with an acknowledgment of important commitments they made.   If they asked for further information on any issue that stumped you, please be sure to let Jay Killackey or Bruce Moyer know so that we can be responsive.

Full coverage of the highly-successful LTS will appear in the May issue of the Postal Supervisor magazine.
