LTS Bulletin #1

February 11, 2014

Timing is everything, as they say, and the timing of this year's LTS couldn't be better.

When NAPS leaders step onto Capitol Hill on Tuesday, March 11, two different postal reform bills will be awaiting Senate and House floor action.  And once again, NAPS members will play a crucial role in educating Congress about the critical need for the right kind of action that stabilizes the finances of the Postal Service and preserves dependable service.

Be sure to attend the LTS, March 9-12, 2014, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel in Arlington, VA.

The Power of You

When you come to Washington and attend the LTS, you will have power -- the capacity to change minds and make a difference on Capitol Hill.

That power lies in telling the real story about the consequences of Congressional delay in passing postal reform.  The real story speaks to the impact that Congressional delay has already caused on mail service, delivery standards, plants, post offices and the fleet, jobs and the postal brand itself.  And what will happen if Congressional delay continues.

Congressional delay cannot continue, no matter how polarized and dysfunctional Congress is.  You have the power to make a difference, to change minds, to make meaningful postal reform happen in Congress this year.

Our Focus

Our meetings with Congressional lawmakers will focus on postal reform legislation, specifically:

-- The need for Congress to take action on legislation that stabilizes the Postal Services' finances, preserves service, and provides postage revenue and product innovation;
--  The consequences of Congressional delay in failing to act on postal reform; and
--  The two very different postal reform bills awaiting Senate and House floor action (S. 1486 and H.R. 2748).

Scheduling Meetings with Lawmakers

State Legislative Chair are beginning to coordinate the scheduling of their state's LTS meetings with their House and Senate lawmakers.  These meetings will occur anytime on Tuesday, March 11 and if necessary, Wednesday, March 12.  The focus of these meetings is on postal reform legislation.
